Jorie Taylor has lived her whole life on the generation ship Beacon. Fleeing an Earth tearing itself apart from its exhaustive demand for resources, the Beacon is finally approaching Sarbras, the planet circling Tau Ceti they hope to make humanity’s new home.

But Earth has recovered from its near-death experience and is now under the control of a ruthless dictator whose sights are set on Tau Ceti as well. President Jurudu knows how to get what he wants—and he wants Sarbras.

With Sequel Novelette by Steven Savile.

"For those wanting that old style SF vibe, in the style of YA Heinlein (Farmer in the Sky, Podkayne of Mars) or more recently Allen Steele’s Coyote series, these will keep you greatly entertained. I wouldn’t mind reading more stories set in this universe myself."--Mark Yon, SFFWorld.com

"Good reading with both the story by Kevin J. Anderson and the follow up story by Steven Savile. " Ryan's Review, GoodReads.com

Tau Ceti The Stellar Guild Book 1 eBook Kevin J Anderson Steven Savile

TAU CETI is the story of a generation ship headed toward the star Tau Deti, twelve light years away. The flight would take 217 years.

As the story opens, the time in flight had been 196 years. Building the ship had taken twenty years and a severe strain on an already thin economy. A world-wide effort to possibly save a dying race.

But Earth had survived and developed an FTL drive. A one government world run by a dictator named Jurudu, he'd hyped the flames that the original crew had raped the Earth's resources and fled. His new FTL drive would get them to Tau Ceti in months instead of the 217 years of the generation ship. He was set to import the squabbles of Earth to the stars.

That was in Kevin J. Anderson's first story. His protege finishes the tale with his own take.

Most excellent.

Tau Ceti The Stellar Guild Book 1 eBook Kevin J Anderson Steven Savile Reviews

Very good read and did Nat want to put this book down. Story an characters well detailed and interesting to follow. Left me wanting more.
This was a great way to full part of my Saturday. Great Story quickly got into it and it easily kept my attention. The only thing I wish that it was a hundred or so pages longer with a little more to the first part of the story. But again really enjoyed this.
Kevin J Anderson what else do you need to say ! a great read with great characters and vision, i like the way Kevin tells a story he gets me hooked every time !! good guys ,bad guys and heroes, every think you want in a book with great imagination , and a easy read i thoroughly enjoyed it !!
The first part of this book was excellent! It was imaginitive and thought provoking; very well written. However, it left you wanting more. So when diving into the second part of the book, you hope that the new author will not only pick up where Kevin Anderson left off, but bring closure to the story. Really not the case. Steven Savile took a blind dive off of the high board, and took the story way out to left field. Very disappointing end. However, if you only read Tau Ceti, you won't face that disappointment. Tau Ceti was well worth the read... but really, I would advise skipping the sequel.
This was probably one of the most enjoyable hard SF books I've read in awhile. Good, strong, believable characters. Solid science. A premise that's believable when you look at the world today. Without giving it away, though, the premise for the second half left me -- well, more than a bit flat, especially with so much solid science in the first.

Still an enjoyable read, though, and I'm sure that the second half won't be quite as disappointing for some people. I'm just not one of them.
The concept of starting a series in a two-part format with a known author and then a new author is interesting, but executed poorly here.

Anderson's overall flavor is almost young-adult in tone and simple, sparse storytelling. Then Savile's second half feels like no editor touched it - Chapter 2 and Jurudu's interminable inner dialogue could have easily been chopped in half with no discernible difference in the plot. It comes across as pure filler.

I'll take a flier on the next book in the series, only because the colonization concept interests me; but it needs to get tighter. Quickly.
A Generation Ship. A ruthless global dictator. Environmental Collapse. A race to colonize humanity's first extra-solar planet. These two stories have a lot going on and it all seems to work. The universe set up feels like the start for a great series. I usually don't like novellas as they often finish far too quickly. I get invested in a storyline and suddenly it's over. Having a second story attached continuing in the same universe helps - but I certainly hope it doesn't end there.

There is a bit too much black and white/good and evil which could have benefited from more nuanced portrayals of the two societies - but there isn't room in so short a book to fully flesh out one let alone two civilizations.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and want to see more ....
